The Indie Rock band Maximo Park was founded in 2000 in Tyne and Wear in North East England. The founding members of the band are Duncan Lloyd on guitar, bassist Archis Tiku, Tom English on drums, and keyboardist Lucas Wooller. The band did not have a set front man, and after Duncan Lloyd and Archis Tiku traded that responsibility in several small shows, Paul Smith was discovered by English's then girlfriend. Although Smith had little experience singing in front of crowds, he successfully took over as lead singer for Maximo Park and the band was complete.
Maximo Park's debut album, A Certain Trigger, released in 2005, was an instant success and rose them to Indie rock fame. They joined up with NME Rock and Roll Riot Tour and began touring, and growing an ever increasing United Kingdom fan base. in 2006 a compilation album, missing songs, was released. After completing a two year round of touring, Our Earthly Pleasures, was released in 2007. The band recently finished recordings for a third anxiously anticipated album and have released several tour dates for 2009 in the United Kingdom, their first since 2007.
With hard hitting lyrics, musical sounds that range from indie rock and punk to synthesized rock and a style uniquely their own, Maximo Park is truly a band to pay attention to. The third album promises to further the band's boundaries, and will be released expeditiously.
Career highlights
Maximo Park's initial success can be credited in part to their joining of NME Rock and Roll Riot Tour, which launched them into a tour year touring stint and drew attention to their 2005 release. This album was also nominated for the Mercury Prize, and was touted by some critics as one of the best releases of the year.
In the midst of playing for several festivals, they were also headliners for the NME Awards Tour. When the band announced "Our Earthly Pleasures" tour dates in February of 2007, most of the concerts were sold out within minutes. 2008 found the band focusing on recording their latest album.
Maximo Park were also featured on several television advertisements and shows. Their third album, set to release in 2009, is much anticipated.
